Distance Assistance
Somewhere after turning 25 my eyes decided to basically just give up on me. I think it took me a little while to figure out what was going on, but it was eventually very apparent that my distance-sight was no longer okay. From my couch, I couldn't read the guide/info on the tv, I needed to drive really close to street signs before I could read them and at work I couldn't see the words on the projector screen during our staff meetings. Last year, I attended five theatrical productions and I remember just wishing I could see the actors' faces on stage. I knew they had faces, and I could see the idea of their faces, but I just couldn't make out any specific detail about them. It was time to do something about it.
After much procrastination, I set up my appointment and went to the eye doctor. I've never been, so it was all new to me (especially that shot of air poofed into both eyes). #NotAFan. Neither of my eyes actually have any noticeable health issues, just regular ol' "getting older." I got a prescription to wear as needed so my distance can be crystal clear once again. Enter Warby Parker...
Apparently, none of my coworkers can see either, so my eye failure is in good timing. We're all jointly embracing the glasses life together and Warby Parker's at-home try on boxes have been all the rage in our office lately. If you're not familiar, Warby Parker will send you five different pairs of glasses (your choice) for you to try out for a few days. That way, you don't have to make a hasty decision in a store and you can test how they really fit into your daily life. Once your trial is over, pack them up and ship them back for free. Pretty cool, right?
The glasses I picked all had a similar vibe and color, with a few variations. I mainly stuck with Classic Wayframe and Cat Eye styles in transparent and rose tones.
The three to the left are Dahl in Crystal, Laurel 17 in Rose Quartz and Haskell in Crystal and Maple. The larger two to the right are Laurel in Tea Rose Fade and Chelsea in Grapefruit Soda.
It's funny how some colors and styles can be so similar, but look SO different on. The Chelsea style in Grapefruit Soda was perfect on my pale skin and the Dahl in Crystal didn't look so great on me. These two pair were SO similar, but the slight changes made my face look completely different. Glad I could try them before buying!
I ended up not being able to decide between two of the five pair, so I had to get them both (and let's be honest, knowing me, I'll probably lose one of them...not jinxing myself, just stating facts). Laurel in Tea Rose Fade is going to be my professional/work style (the dark rim at the top just seems a little more job-like to me) and Chelsea in Grapefruit Soda is my more fun/weekend pair. I loved how the "transparent" part of both of these have a slight color to them. Plus, they seem to fit in with my bright, crazy hair.
Having that little box from Warby Parker made my symptom of getting older a little more fun and exciting. I've shipped my little box back and I'm waiting on my first two pair of real glasses to arrive at my door. Expect a lot more of me and my four eyes in upcoming selfies, friends. I am officially a glasses-wearer!
